Your instructor: Amber Denis
I started Equi-Soul in 2016 after discovering Equine Assisted Learning. My horses had helped me feel better on my hard days, but I didn't understand why until I dug into EAL. That discovery changed my life, and it is why I do this work.
Today, our herd of 7 horses partners with women and kids working through depression, anxiety, trauma, confidence, life transitions and team building. Over the years we have offered programs like Yoga with Horses, half day and full day retreats, connection programs for women, the Tomorrow's Leaders Youth Program, mom's and dad's groups, and a grief and bereavement program. At the heart of all of it are the horses, who act as partners in self discovery and give honest feedback so people can make positive changes in their lives.
I am certified as an Equine Assisted Personal Development Coach (2016) and an Equine Assisted Corporate Development Facilitator (2018), and I hold Equine First Aid and Advanced First Aid through Equi-Health Canada. I keep training in business development and in working with trauma, depression and anxiety. For over a decade I have coached new EAL facilitators, and I trained equine handlers before starting our own program.
How I teach
I keep group sizes small so every student gets maximum hands-on time with the horses. A small group also allows deeper debrief sessions, where every student can learn and take part.
The horse is not a tool. The horse is a partner in the session. Their well-being matters most, and so does yours as a facilitator. Training includes recognizing the signs of stress and burnout, so both the horses and the facilitators can sustain this work for the long term.
