THE MENTAL WELLNESS CRISIS IN ONTARIO

 

Did you know?

 

• 1 in 4 Ontarians access mental health help - the highest rate since the pandemic.

• Pre-pandemic wait times to access support for Mood and Anxiety at the Royal ranged from 249 - 371 days, and in general, the average person could be waiting weeks, months or even years to access mental health care.

• 1 in 5 Ontarians do not have a family doctor - the starting point in many cases for a referral to mental health services

• 39% of Ontario high-school students indicate a moderate-to-serious level of psychological distress (symptoms of anxiety and depression)

• A 2020 study shows that 28,000 children and youth (under 18) in Ontario were on waitlists for as long as 2.5 years for mental health treatment

 

These are just some of the stats on our worsening mental health crisis in Ottawa and Ontario.

 

We want to help! Many people in our area are on waitlists, some haven’t even made a move to start their mental wellness recovery due to situation or income barriers. We’d like to fill that gap.

 

Equi-Soul is dedicated to helping by using horses and Equine Assisted Learning certified coaches as communication tools to reach people and support their mental wellness recovery. Our sessions are designed to support those struggling with depression, anxiety, trauma, confidence building, goal setting, relationship conflicts, and more.

Our goal with the Community Wellness Group is to help struggling or disadvantaged community members by offering subsidized or free one-on-one or group sessions with our horses and coaches.

 

HOW YOU CAN HELP

 

We invite you, as an Ottawa area business owner and community member, to join with us in a cooperative partnership.

 

We’re seeking a helping hand to support funding to cover the costs associated with subsidized or free equine assisted learning sessions. In exchange for your generosity, we’ve created a partner appreciation program offering reciprocal rewards for your support.

Sessions are awarded to applicants to our Community Wellness Group Program.  Applicants are screened for eligibility and urgency of care.
